Capacity Building for the Fizica Altfel Community

Starting with July 1, 2026, the “Alternative Physics Community” Association launched the “Capacity Building for the Alternative Physics Community” project, a 1-year project funded by the Romanian-American Foundation (RAF), dedicated to strengthening the physics teacher community and promoting inquiry-based physics learning.

The association’s members have extensive experience in using inquiry-based methods, being involved in programs such as Alternative Physics, Alternative Chemistry and Alternative Mathematics, in developing school textbooks and in implementing physics programs for middle and high schools.

🎯 The project aims to:
🔹 strengthen the organizational capacity of the “Alternative Physics Community” Association and develop a community of practice dedicated to physics teachers;
🔹 create a digital platform and a visual identity that will facilitate access to educational resources and support communication with physics teachers;

🔹 development and validation of a set of learning units based on the investigation method for 9th grade physics, aligned with the new curriculum.

The project will directly involve 26 teachers in the development and piloting of the created resources and will reach over 450 teachers through promotion and dissemination activities. The final beneficiaries will be students, who will benefit from more attractive, relevant learning experiences connected to the way scientific knowledge is constructed.

Although the project is at its beginning, the first activities have already taken place:

On July 3–4, two members of the association participated in the third edition of the DataMathLab National Festival, organized in Brașov, where they identified good practices relevant to the organization of the association’s activities and strengthened collaboration with teachers concerned with the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.

On July 4–5, two members of the association participated in the workshop organized by Friends for Friends Foundation, in Bucharest, which contributed to the development of organizational skills, the expansion of the collaboration network and the strengthening of the association’s capacity to develop sustainable initiatives. This is just the beginning. In the coming months, we will share with you the resources we are developing, the project stages and the opportunities for involvement in the Fizica Altfel community.

We thank the Romanian-American Foundation for the trust and for supporting initiatives that contribute to the development of quality education in Romania.
